First a confession. While I have been doing web development for over decade I am a neophyte to PHP. The site you are on is done in PHP. I did this as a project so that I could learn the language. Being a long time fan, lover, and user of Perl I can say that I am very impressed with what can be done with PHP. While I have no immediate plans to give up Perl and CGI programming I can honestly say that I am sold on PHP. In fact, if someone was brand new to the web and wanted to learn an open source server side language I would actually recommend PHP over Perl/CGI! PS - Almost all web hosts offer PHP and CGI. As I am not a brain surgeon I needed a resource to get me up to speed quickly on the language as my time for such ventures is quite limited. Having spent hours looking at various books on the subject I found one that did the trick. Let me preface by saying that I have a very strong web development and programming background. Having said this I believe the book is just as applicable for someone with very modest technical skills.
