ericms Software Reviews - Text Editors
Nothing to start a technical holy war like talking about editors. vi lovers are about
as close to a religious cult as one can get.
PSPad
I have pretty much switched to using this editor exclusively. It almost has as
many of the features as UltraEdit. If you do not have the cash to buy
UltraEdit but desire a robust text editor look no futher. Download here.

ConText
This is a nice lightweight free text editor. I have used this editor over the years teaching
where I need a decent editor that does color coding. Something a bit nicer than Notepad. This edit
has a lot of nice features. Download ConText here. The zip file
include the manual
JEdit
If you must have a Java based editor look no further. This editor has so many plugins and features
you will be blown away. It is so robust that I know some programmers that use it as a Java IDE!
I used it when I was running my own webserver because it had a nifty plugin that allowed me to
administer my Apache webserver. I do not have the software here for you to download, but here is the
url. JEdit
